The weather looked somewhat foreboding as I made my exit from H-town,
and I saw a few drops of liquid sunshine, but nothing that caused any
problems. For the most part the trip was just like the rest of
Texas has been.... Hot. Really hot. The temperatures have
been hovering just below 100 almost the entire time I've been in the
state. So I guess the answer to the question of whether or not I
can handle it is "Yes". I can handle this just fine.
Scotty's dad gave me a comedy CD to listen to on the way, which I thought was pretty hilarious... It was a kind of vaudevillian type of humor, don't know if everyone could appreciate... I did, though. Once I was away from Houston, the clouds disappeared and the sun came out, bringing back that lovely Texas heat... Yeah, baby! A couple hours down the road, I see a sign for "La Grange" and immediately start thinking of Billy Gibbons saying "A-how how how how"..... so out came the ZZ Top CD. If you've ever wondered what that area looked like, just take a look at the picture above... That's a few minutes north of La Grange. Here's some random pictures I took along the way to Austin. I arrived in Austin in the early afternoon, and checked into another Motel 6 (my home away from home). I felt like sampling those Krispy Kreme donuts again, and since they're in Austin as well, I set out to locate one.... yummmm. I like the blueberry cake donuts especially. These things are like crack rocks, super addictive... Once the sugar buzz had died down, I dug out some of my funky clothes and hit the Austin strip... 6th Avenue down town. This street is basically one club after another, for about 7-8 blocks. It's pretty kickin, and I was surprised how many people were there on Sunday night. It took me a while to locate some parking, but I finally did, and the first club I hit was a dance club called Platinum X. It sounded like the joint was really hopping, but once I got in I saw about 6 people there. So I had a beer (25 cent well drinks! Right on!), and took off for another place. I stopped by a club called Lucy's that had a blues band playing... these guys were kickin it pretty good. So I stayed through their set, and had another beer. They finished, and the next band played Country music, so I was outta there damn quick... Most of the other clubs on the strip were kinda dead, and when I went back by Platinum X there was a line in front... So I decided to go back in and check it out... Now the place was absolutely PACKED. Somewhat of a sausage fest, and most of the girls were really young. Texas seems to like to do this "18 & up" thing a lot. I still got up there and got my groove on, danced with a few hotties, and had a good time.. I was started to get a little tired (it was about 1:30 am), so I decided to call it a night and head back to the hotel. Tomorrow I will explore Austin some more and get some good pictures of the city. I still haven't decided where I will be staying this evening, though. I may stay here another night and head off to Carlsbad in the morning. <<previous ----- <<schedule>> ----- next->> |
