Here I am, finally in Las Vegas, and all I can say is:  WOW!

This town is completely over the top, and a total tribute to excess.  I've never seen hotels so huge.... and the designs... YOW.  Never thought I'd see a life size replica of the Eiffel Tower sticking out of the top of a hotel, or the Statue of Liberty wearing a jersey.   The big thing now seems to be building a roller coaster into the hotel as well.

But it doesn't stop there.... There seems to be slot machines everywhere.  At the gas station, in 7-11, even the drug store has slot machines.  And the pedestrian overpasses have escalators and elevators in them.

I hit the strip about noon..... decided to just go down and check it out, and see what was going on... I must have walked about 10 miles, cuz my feet were pretty tired.  I just went from casino to casino, and checked them out.... I started at the Luxor, and just worked my way down the strip.

I thought about seeing the Blue Man Group at the Luxor (which looks like a giant pyramid, complete with life-size sphinx in front), but then came the ticket price ($75 + tax), and the fact that all that was left for seating was the last two rows.... No thanks.  Then I thought about riding the roller coaster at New York, New York (which looks like a mish mash of the New York sky line), but that was $10.50.  Screw that.  Everything seems to be extremely expensive.

So I decided to just walk around and check out the sights... I watched the fountain at Bellagio (which is unbelievably cool), watched the volcano erupt at the Mirage.  I would have watched the show at Treasure Island, but I missed it by about 10 minutes.  But then I saw the sign.... Krispy Kreme donuts... aaaaaaaaaaaah!  My crack dealer has arrived.  So I grabbed a couple and got my fix.

I was getting tired of walking, so I decided to bail and find a place to stay for the night.  Most of the hotels on the strip are like $100+ a night on weekends, so I opted for another lovely Motel 6 evening... but even they were $51.99 a night.  So I checked in, and headed off to grab some food.... I decided to try an In-And-Out Burger.... which was DAMN good!  Then I grabbed a shower, and put on some of the funky clothes... my plan was to go back to the club Sam and I had been to the night before.

I drove around for about half an hour trying to find the place again, but I was so disoriented, and the streets are so weird, that I never did find it... So I opted to go back to the strip, and do a little drinking and gambling.. after all, this IS Las Vegas.

I hit Paris first.... I got $20 worth of quarters, and sat down and played the quarter slot machines for about 2 hours..... at one point, I was up about $16, but my winnings dwindled to $3.25 by the time I decided to head out and try another casino.  My next stop was Caesar's Palace...  Every time I go by there I just picture Evel Knievel jumping over the fountain.. hahaha.

The slots at Caesar's sucked me dry in nothing flat... so I ended up out $20.  I decided that was enough and called it a night on the gambling...  I grabbed a beer and just started walking.  I like that you can walk down the street drinking a beer in Vegas, that is so cool.

My next stop was Bally's.... I struck up a conversation with a cute chick that I met there.. we talked for a while, but I could see that it was going nowhere... so I bailed.  I was starting to get tired, so I headed back to the car and called it a night...

Originally my plan was to stay in Vegas one more day... but I got to looking at the map, and realized I had two 10+ hour days of driving to get home, *and* I wanted to throw Bryce Canyon in there somewhere as well... but there was no way I was gonna be able to make that happen.  So instead, I decided to drop the Saturday night in Vegas... which sucks, cuz I woulda probably got laid if I stayed there another night.... and instead, I would spend the day at Bryce Canyon....

So in the morning, I'm off to Bryce.... can't wait!
