Yeah, not many music selections today... Why? Well.. for the last few hours of the trip I really didn't need music to keep me occupied. What a nice change from yesterday. Today has redeemed yesterday's shortcomings, and reminded me what I did this. I started off the morning by surveying the incredible collection of bugs I was developing on the nose of my car, and then bolting from Twin Falls, Idaho... and was surprised to find an AWESOME canyon view just out of town that I missed coming in (it was dark). That was a nice way to start off the day. Spent a few minutes yacking on the cell with my insurance agent making sure I was covered. He was surprised to hear I was calling him from Idaho....hehehe. Once I got out of Idaho, the scenery continually improved... Everything was fine until I hit SLC.. First I spent about 45 minutes driving around trying to find a place that was in range of the Ricochet service, so I could finally check my email.... only to find that it was no longer working (they said it would stay on until 6pm... damn!) Then, I got stuck in rush hour traffic.... stop and go, 5 mph for about an hour. The Alero continues to perform beautifully... temperatures in the 90's and 100's all day long, and it's running cool. I got out of that, and set off towards I-70... gotta say, there is NOTHING like rocking out on Helmet, blasting down a deserted road with the cruise control set on 90 mph. I'm making up for all the lost time in SLC now! Driving down I-70 east has been one of the most awesome drives I've ever been on in my life. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Sometimes it's hard to believe you're still on this planet. It looks like Mars or something, and it goes on and on for as far as your eyes can see. It's mind boggling how much area these canyons take up.... I lost about an hour because I kept pulling over at scenic view points just to take in the splendor of the view. I'm astounded at how beautiful this area of the country is, it's really beyond words. If you've never been here, at least take this trip once in your life. It's well worth it. I stopped and watched the sun go down over the cliffs and canyons.... Definitely something I'm never going to forget. As darkness feel, I could see a thunderstorm off to the south.. The lightning flashes lit up the cliffs over and over... it was really cool looking. Settled in for the night at the Apache Motel.... I originally planned on Motel 6 again, but they were full... So they referred me to this place. Boy what a high class room (I'm being sarcastic). This place is old enough, it probably got it's name because Geronimo slept here. The room has a nice funk to it, I'm wondering if there's a dead body under the matress or something. It's kinda interesting listening to the people above me fucking, though.. hahaha. Okay, I'm signing off for tonight... Tomorrow morning bright and early I hit Arches National Park, then I will explore Canyonlands for a bit... and then off to Denver, Colorado. Then I'll get to take a break from driving for a few days... whew! <<previous ----- <<schedule>> ----- next->> |
