Day 6
View from Royal Gorge Bridge

The jagged rocky cliffs of Royal Gorge are quite an impressive site.

The Arkansas River runs beneath the bridge, over a thousand feet below.

Doesn't look all that high, does it?  These towering cliffs are over 1,000 feet tall!

Looking down from the bridge almost makes you dizzy... it's a LONG way down!

The inclined railway to the bottom stops at the station you see in the lower center of the picture.  The small dots on the ramp coming out of the building are people - gives you an idea how far down it is!

The bridge offers some spectacular views of the Colorado Rockies, and the valleys surrounding them.

Another smaller portion of the canyon was visible just past the other side of the bridge.

Another view of the mountains from the visitor center at Royal Gorge bridge.

Many of the cliffs around the bridge are sheer drop offs, and if you fell you wouldn't stop until you hit the bottom of the gorge.

Another nice view of the Arkansas River.

A good look at the jagged rocks of the gorge's steep cliffs.

The tram station on the west side of the bridge is perched high atop a massive cliff.

Looking straight down off the bridge at the river below... this picture reminds me of how dizzy I felt looking down like this... youch!

Another look at the view straight down to the water, which is 1,053 feet below the bridge deck.
